Direction Change & Lateral Adjustment

"Direction Change" involves backing into a space to turn around.
We explain the differences from standard parking and the "Lateral Adjustment" (Habayose) procedure for recovery with easy-to-understand diagrams!

What is Direction Change?

Direction Change is a task where you back into a designated space and then exit in a different direction.

💡 Key Point: Leave Space for Exit!
Unlike garage parking where you center the car, for direction change, you must leave space on the side you want to exit towards.
(If there is no space, the rear wheel will drop off due to inner wheel difference when turning out.)

Step 1: Approaching the Course

The battle starts here! You need space on both the inside and outside.

Approach position â–² Aim for the "rough center" of the road and enter straight.
Ideal Position: Center of the Road
Too close to the inside = Rear wheel drop.
Too close to the outside = Front wheel drop (outer overhang).
Ensure space on both sides.

Step 2: Backing & Steering Timing

After checking rear safety, reverse while aiming for the slot.

Timing to turn steering wheel â–² Turn the wheel at the point where you feel "This is it!"
Timing requires practice!
Theoretically, it's about 2.7m from the rear wheel corner, but intuition is key.
Practice to find the "just right" timing—not too early, not too late.

Step 3: Checking While Turning

Once you've turned about halfway, don't forget to check your surroundings.

Safety check while backing â–² Enter aggressively towards the inside! Check front-right and rear-right.

Step 4: Straighten & Park

When the car is straight, return the steering wheel and back in fully.

Parking complete â–² Straighten wheel, check rear from inside, and complete parking.

Step 5: Exiting (Watch Inner Wheel Diff!)

Signal towards the exit, check left and right, and move out.

Exiting direction change â–² Turn sharply (like a Crank) to avoid dropping the rear wheel (Inner Wheel Difference).

If you fail, use "Lateral Adjustment"!

If you turn too late and enter wide, the space on the exit side becomes narrow.
If you try to force your way out, you will drop a wheel! In that case, do a "Lateral Adjustment" (Habayose) without hesitation.

Lateral adjustment procedure â–² Efficiently moving sideways in a narrow space
Tips for Lateral Adjustment (Slowly, Quickly!)
  1. Speed: Extremely SLOW! (Creep speed)
  2. Steering: Turn QUICKLY and FULLY!

Procedure
â‘  In the first half of the available forward space, turn the wheel fully towards the side you want to approach and move forward.
â‘¡ In the second half, turn the wheel fully the opposite way to straighten the car.
â‘¢ Check the rear and back up to the original position.
→ Lateral move complete! Now it's easier to exit.

Direction change is about "Preparing to Exit".
If you fail, calm down and recover with Lateral Adjustment!
