Signaling Timing & Safety Checks
The basics of safe driving on the road are
"Signaling (Intention)" and "Checking".
We've organized key points like the difference between "30m before" and "3 seconds before" that often cause point deductions in exams.
Correct Steps for Lane Changing
Turning the steering wheel suddenly is dangerous. Always follow these "4 Steps".
Check rearview mirror, side mirror, and blind spot (head check).
Inform others before moving.
Check surroundings again after signaling.
Turn the wheel if safe.
Signaling Timing
Signals should not be too early or too late. Distinguish between rules based on "Distance" and those based on "Time".
- Turning Left / Right
- U-Turn
- Lane Change (Changing Course)
- Avoiding Obstacles
Hand Signals
Used when lamps are hard to see or broken. You need to know this for the written exam.
| Signal Type | Hand Action (Right Hand) |
|---|---|
| Right Turn / Lane Change | Extend arm horizontally outside. |
| Left Turn / Lane Change | Raise arm vertically outside. |
| Stop / Slow Down | Extend arm diagonally downwards. |
| Reversing (Backing) | Extend arm diagonally down and move palm back and forth. |
*For motorcycles, since the right hand operates the throttle, the left hand is used for opposite actions.
Horn Usage Rules
Using the horn for "Greeting" or "Frustration" is a violation. You may only use it in these two cases:
- When unavoidable to prevent danger
(e.g., Emergencies where an accident is imminent) - Places with "Sound Horn" signs
(e.g., Blind intersections or corners in mountains)
"I saw a child walking alone, so I honked to warn them."
→ × WRONG!
Honking suddenly may startle them and cause them to jump out. Slow down or stop instead.
No Lane Changing (Yellow Line)
If the traffic lane boundary line is "Yellow", you must not cross it to change lanes.
(Exception: Allowed if unavoidable, such as avoiding roadworks or emergency vehicles)
Signaling is consideration for others.
Prepare early for smooth driving!
