Loading & Towing

This is the area with the most numbers in the written exam!
Organize and memorize confusing numbers like "1.2x length", "3.8m height", and "30kg for mopeds".

Riding Rules (Principles & Exceptions)

[Principle]
You must not carry passengers anywhere other than the designated seats.
(Riding in the truck bed or trunk is a violation)
[Exception] Riding in a Truck Bed
Allowed ONLY if ALL 3 conditions are met:
  1. Carrying cargo (Cannot be empty).
  2. For the purpose of watching over the cargo.
  3. Minimum necessary number of people.

Loading Limits (Cars)

Limits on cargo size and overhang. You cannot exceed the values in the vehicle inspection certificate.

Item Limit (Principle) Overhang Limit
Length 1.2 times the car length Total 0.1 times (Front & Rear)
Width 1.2 times the car width Total 0.1 times (Left & Right)
Height 3.8m or less from ground
⚠️ Watch out for Kei-Trucks!
The height limit for light trucks (Kei-tora) is 2.5m or less from the ground.

Loading Limits (2-Wheelers)

Distinguish clearly between Motorcycles and Mopeds.

Item Motorcycle
(Over 50cc)
Moped
(50cc or less)
Load Weight Max 60kg Max 30kg
Capacity 2 people
*If rear seat exists
1 person
*2-up prohibited

[Overhang Limits (Common)]
● Length: Up to 0.3m (30cm) from the carrier
● Width: Up to 0.15m (15cm) each side from the carrier
● Height: 2.0m or less from the ground

💡 Exam Trick!
"I rode a motorcycle carrying a person weighing 80kg." → TRUE (Correct)
The load weight limit (60kg) applies to "Cargo". Human weight is not included.

Towing Rules

Rules for pulling a broken-down car with a rope.

📜 License Requirement
  • Principle: Towing license required (for vehicles over 750kg).
  • Exception: Towing a broken-down car with a rope does NOT require a towing license.
🚗 Rules for Towing Broken Cars
  • Rope length: Within 5m.
  • Attach a "White Cloth" (0.3m square or more) to the center of the rope.
  • The rear car (broken car) must be steered by someone with a license to drive that vehicle.

Memorizing numbers is the shortcut to passing!
